PROFILE
Michael’s expertise has been used by
contractors, subcontractors, employers and others alike to
identify real and potential issues and recover considerable sums
of money that may otherwise have been lost.
Appointed Chairman of the MBM Group of
companies at the end of 2005, as well as overseeing growth of
the group, Michael has specific operational responsibilities for
the Western and Northern regions and for MBM Ireland Ltd.
Michael has over 20 years experience in
Ireland and the UK managing commercial contracts in a variety of
industrial sectors. Having trained originally with a number of
large UK construction companies including Mansell, Norwest Holst
and Willmott Dixon, he has a wealth of contracting experience as
a Chartered Quantity Surveyor as well as professional
client-side experience.
Following formal training and 10 further
years contracting experience, Michael chose to specialise in
dispute resolution and construction law, has since
persued
and defended contractual claims and commercial disputes for
clients and contractors alike, and has acted as expert witness
on a number of significant appointments in relation to matters
of time delay and quantum. In 1999 Michael, together with fellow
director Jonathan Bowcott founded MBM Consulting Ltd.
Michael also has a track record in
contracts and project management, hands-on experience of
difficult procurement problems and has presented numerous
training seminars on commercial and contractual management
issues. His professional work has been complemented by academic
study to obtain relevant legal and professional qualifications.
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
His expertise has been utilised on many
prestigious UK projects including the Northern Line PFI, the Jubilee
Line Extension Project, Project Horizon [Tri-partite MoD contract for
new generation naval frigates], Portcullis House, the Forth Rail Bridge
Refurbishment and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
Since setting up MBM Ireland Ltd,
Michael has been involved in some of the flagship
infrastructural projects in Ireland including the M3 and M7
motorways, the Dublin Port Tunnel, the Limerick Main Drainage
project and the Dublin City Council Water Treatment Stage 3
regeneration.
He has considerable practical
arbitration experience both in the role of arbitrator and
advocate, has prepared numerous referrals and response documents
for adjudication purposes and has acted as expert witness on
time and quantum issues on several arbitrations and litigations
. Michael has provided professional advice and services across a
number of sectors including construction, infrastructure,
transport and rail, bridge-building and civil engineering,
mechanical and electrical, ship refurbishment, gas and
petrochemical and defence electronics.
