We can do this in a variety of ways:

Design & Build Cost Control: MBM can help ensure your designers work within agreed budgets to ensure a cost effective design and build bid. Clients have indicated that when preparing design and build bids, there is often insufficient cost control in respect of changing design solutions. Without management of this process the implications of design alternatives, not just in terms of buildability, but also in respect of cost and programme implications can be missed resulting in unexpected risk included in the bid submission. MBM can help manage the effects of design change and development through providing consultants who can liaise between contractor and designer to brief on design alternatives, work with designers to help work within cost constraints, liaise with the contractor to implement the effects of the design change on the bid, in terms of both time and programme. Such a process can provide more accurate bid costs, programme management and contractor/designer integration.

Fee Management: Designers are frequently required to enter into services agreements (such as the NEC Professional Services Agreement) that require specific procedures to manage the provision of their services and the fees they are paid. The effects of change have to be managed, programmed and costed in accordance with contractual requirements. MBM can assist designers with this function. On large scale projects design costs can be significant and change can occur frequently. Clients (be they employers or contractors in a D&B situation) therefore require that designers provide full justification in a manner that complies with the contract. Failure to do so can prejudice entitlement. MBM can review your services agreement to establish correct commercial procedures, identify condition precedents and manage your account correctly. Fee submissions will therefore have appropriate justification giving a better likelihood of recovery as well as assisting the designer’s client the opportunity to manage design change effectively.

Training: undertake general or specific training to assist your team or group work more effectively. We can help to improve commercial procedures, advise on forms of contract, claims preparation, adjudication procedures etc; whatever will help your team work more effectively and efficiently.

Research: We can carry out specific areas of research to identify trends or issues that your company may have and seek to establish reasons why these have occurred. In so doing the particular issue can be addressed and solutions put in place to reduce or eliminate its effect.

Management Consulting: MBM can provide a general management consultancy to help companies address general or specific issues that affect the operation and performance of the company and how these can be addressed and improved.

Risk Management: With particular emphasis on NEC requirements, MBM can help you fulfil your risk management requirements under this form of contract. Proactive risk management gives parties an opportunity to be more efficient in dealing with uncertainty, with the result that tender prices can be reduced, uncertainty is dealt with and all parties actively engage in the identification, effective allocation and management of risk.
