PRODUCTIVITY & DISRUPTION CLAIMS
Synopsis:
Productivity relates to the rate at which work is carried out. A
contractor typically tenders for work on the basis of outputs it
expects to achieve e.g. how much electrical cable can be pulled
per hour or how much usage an excavator will have per hour /
day. If these outputs are achieved or bettered the Contractor
will make money, if the outputs are not achieved, it will lose
money.

EXTENSION OF TIME CLAIMS
Synopsis:
The contractor’s principal time obligation is to complete the
works by the completion date. Similarly construction contracts
typically have liquidated damages clauses. If the contractor
fails to complete by the completion date he would have to pay
liquidated damages at the stipulated rate. Extension of time
claims provide the substantiation and information required under
the extension of time clauses to demonstrate by how much the
completion date should be adjusted. Most standard form contracts
have an extension of time mechanism, or a compensation event
clause which provides for the completion date to be revised.

PROJECT
PLANNING & SCHEDULING
Synopsis:
Project planning (or scheduling as it may often be referred to
internationally) is a vital project management tool for the
effective management of the works. Planning provides a means by
which the scope of works is mapped out over the required period
from which the progress of the works can be monitored against
the duration of the project. Correct project planning provides a
central function by which all parties involved in the
construction process, can actively manage the construction of
the works. Planning is not just operating programming software.
A planner ought to be an integral function of a successful
project which would include being able to accurately establish
progress through such means as progress measures, marked up
drawings, labour records etc. It is this information that
provides the base data for use in the contract or updated
programme.

TENDER PROGRAMMES
Synopsis:
When a project is being tendered, a contractor (and typically,
in turn, its subcontractors) are frequently required to produce
a programme as part of its tender submission indicating the
proposed timing, sequence and duration of its works. The
programme can vary in complexity depending upon matters such as
the scale of the project and the requirements of the contract.
A reliable, well presented and justifiable programme will form
an essential part of the tender bid and contribute towards its
overall success. The tender programme frequently becomes, or
forms the basis of, such a programme, amended as necessary to
produce a reliable, workable and up to date programme.
